Our Mission
Eastern Phantasia promotes the public's interest in and appreciation for contemporary Eastern instrumental music. Through performances, recordings, outreach and educational programs, the group seeks to enrich the musical life of American audiences by bridging the gap between East and West and between old and new.
Eastern Phantasia was formed in 2012 by erhuist Qi Li and the core founding members — flutist Sylvia Yan, pipaist Jodie Wang, zhengist Yang Wang, keyboardist Francine Di, and musical director Jiajin Ji.
Li, whose technique and artistry have earned her international acclaim, envisioned a truly progressive endeavor in the realm of Asian-inspired fusion music. The ensemble’s repertoire embraces the diverse influences of all five players, from ancient Chinese ballads and ethnic folk melodies to American jazz and rock. And while five distinct voices can be heard, they blend with each other in perfect balance.
